Dear Branchburg Community,
On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank everyone who voted either via mail-in ballot, early voting or went to a polling location yesterday. The preliminary results show that both referendum questions have passed.
The vote count for each question as of November 3rd at 10:58 PM is as follows:
Question 1: 3,723 in favor 2,797 opposed
Question 2: 3,411 in favor 3,069 opposed
Voter approval of these questions give the Branchburg Township School District access to $5.8 million in state aid to help cover a portion of the $34.8 million in project costs.
The success of this referendum was not the result of one single person but the efforts of an entire community. The support provided by the Branchburg PTO, Branchburg Education Foundation, Branchburg Township Education Association, various community organizations, the Township Committee and many individual families helped us approve these needed projects which will be a benefit not just to our students but the community as a whole.
In the short time that I have been superintendent, I have been in awe of the support this community provides the school district; particularly its teachers and students. The support of this referendum is another example of this. I am excited about the next steps and beginning the process of working with our consultants to sell the bonds at the most favorable rates. Architects and engineers will prepare project specifications for the bidding process, and contracts will be awarded to the lowest qualified bidder in accordance with state regulations.
As we begin the next phase of the referendum, we will keep you posted on the timelines of the projects and how they are progressing. This is a very exciting time and we want you to be a part of it. Again, thank you for your support and I look forward to our continued work together to provide the best education for our students.
Sincerely,
Kevin McPeek
Superintendent of Schools
