Parents Invited to Memorial Day Commemoration
Friday, May 24th is Stony Brook School’s annual Memorial Day Commemoration. Our Commemoration is a day that infuses patriotism into the hearts and minds of our students. Our day begins with a poignant opening ceremony in which we introduce and honor our local veterans as well as veterans from our own Stony Brook School community. Some of our local, county, and state elected officials attend our morning ceremony that is outdoors in front of the school. Stony Brook Boy Scouts perform a Flag Raising Ceremony and the Girl Scouts welcome our honored veterans in our “Parade of Heroes” and patriotic music is performed by our school band and chorus. Throughout the day, the students are engaged in various patriotic activities, including “boot camp”, patriotic sing-a-long, viewing war time memorabilia (on loan) in our “Museum Room” and listening to our veterans speak of their experiences. In addition, our students make patriotic crafts and they prepare snack care packages that are sent to our troops deployed in Afghanistan.
We would like to extend an invitation to our Stony Brook families to attend our Opening Ceremony. Please join us outside on the front lawn at 8:45 to be a part of this special day. The ceremony lasts approximately a half hour.
