At the November 1, 2018 Board of Education meeting, we were pleased to recognize three student artists for the month of November.
Pari J. – 3rd Grade at Whiton - Sumi-e Bamboo Painting - Teacher: Christopher Boehm
Katelyn R. - 8th Grade at BCMS - Teacher: Randy Kupcha
Gabrielle W. - 7th Grade at BCMS - Pastel Form - Teacher: Meghan Russo
Two of our artists were there to tell us more about the artwork they created. Pari explained that her artwork, which was a painting of bamboo was made with black paint and a special bamboo brush! She also said that pandas like to eat bamboo and that she likes her art classes with Mr. Boehm because he makes the class fun.
Our next artist was Gabrielle who created a chalk pastel piece that represented light and shadow using overlapping shapes and spheres. Her other favorite works that she is most proud of was a leopard (or cheetah) that she created while in 6th grade. She wants to continue creating art next year in 8th grade.
Ms. Gensel then introduced Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Nelson, BCMS Guidance Counselors who presented on the BCMS Principal’s Kindness Competition. In recognition of National School Violence Awareness Week the competition was created as a way to promote discussion and reflection about kindness. Students were asked to consider the question “What is kindness?”
Winners were announced on October 15th and treated to a pizza luncheon with a friend in the Principal’s Conference Room and their submissions were displayed at BCMS.
