May 17, 2018 BOE Meeting

Board of Education Meeting on May 17th

At the May 17th Board of Education meeting Ms. Gensel  introduced two groups of students from BCMS  who are National Finalists in their respective competitions.

The winners of our National History Day competition will be travelling to Washington, DC to defend and showcase their presentation . BCMS students, Alex Scholp, Matthew Murrison and Andrew Dailey will be showcasing the website that they created  under the theme of Conflict and Compromise. Their website addresses the relationship that existed between Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs.

The students went on to explain how their website, Debugging Jobs and Wozniak was constantly evolving from the time they presented it at the regional tournament until they went to the state tournament. The website details  how the struggle between Jobs and Wozniak affected the tech industry because of the different ways the men saw technology evolving.

They will be travelling to Washington DC on June 11th and the awards will be on June 14th.

The BCMS students who are going to the World Competition  for Odyssey of the Mind are Matthew Buttgereit, David Frankel, Jamie Chiang, Avni Maheshwari, Ella Romano,  Katherine Shi and Mina Batra.

The students explained how Odyssey of the Mind is a creative problem solving competition that can be divided into two parts; the long term problem and the spontaneous problem. The long term problem is something they prepare for from November until the first competition in March and they have to prepare a skit that has certain requirements. They chose to do a theatrical problem. For the spontaneous problem it can be verbal, hands on or verbal hands on. In order to do well you need a diverse group of students with different skills such as artistic, acting and technical. This is all done with no outside assistance.

They will be travelling to Iowa from May 23rd to May 26th and will be competing with over 800 teams representing 20 countries.

We are so proud of what all of you have accomplished and wish you luck in your competitions!
