January 18, 2018 BOE Meeting

Board of Education Meeting on January 18th
Board of Education Meeting on January 18th At our January 18th Board of Education meeting Ms. Gensel gave us an update on the situation at Whiton School. The reconstruction company is coming to Whiton on Friday, January 19th to begin to take a look at what it’s going to take to put the classrooms back together and to give us a timeline to when we can get everyone back in their classrooms. We have been ordering materials and making sure that we have everything scheduled for delivery so that when we are able to get back in the classroom we will have the materials, desks chairs everything that we need to classrooms up and running. She will have more to report on that timeline at our February 1st BOE meeting.

Ms. Gensel also reported that she, Ms. Hauser and Mrs. Neely met with Somerville Superintendent Tim Teehan, Joanne Sung Director of Curriculum and Tanya McDonald, Director of Special Education to touch base to see where the two districts are and where we are dovetailing in our curriculum and our services and where we have room to work together to dovetail a little more effectively. This was the first of several meetings that will be happening during the course of the school year. One of the topics that they spent some time on was looking at how we might be able to share resources for professional development for staff so that when we have our professional development time, Somerville has their time scheduled as well so we can get our two districts to interact with one another professionally and share resources that way.

Next week the STEM Coaches, Jen Hauser, Mr. Altmire, Eric Schaeffer and Ms. Gensel will be attending TECHSPO in Atlantic City to try to get an idea of what is out there that would be beneficial to our students in their learning and to learn themselves what’s available in the world of technology as it relates to the education of our students.
