February 7, 2019 BOE Meeting

Board of Education Meeting on February 7th

At the February 7, 2019 Board of Education meeting, we were entertained by the BCMS Chamber Orchestra. The BCMS Chamber Orchestra is an auditioned orchestra for students who want to play more challenging music. The orchestra is comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th graders who meet once a week at 7am to rehearse and they are completely self-conducted. They performed Out of the Winter for us, a piece they also showcased at the BCMS Winter Strings and Choral Concert and they did a wonderful job!

Also at the meeting we were pleased to recognize four student artists for the month of February:

o   Gianna V.  – Kindergarten - Teacher: Mr. Boehm

o   Kayla C. – 5th Grade - Teacher: Mrs. Barry

o   Alexandra S.  – 8th Grade  - Teacher: Mr. Kupcha

o   Lindsy C. – 8th Grade - Teacher: Ms. Russo

Three of our artists were there to tell us more about the artwork they created.

Gianna spoke about how she created the circles in her painting by using yogurt cups. She likes her painting because it’s pretty. (photo at top of page)

Alex’s landscape was inspired by pictures of landscapes she has seen. Her technique was to take a paintbrush and dip half in one color and half in another color so she could create an even blend. Student Artist Alex

Lindsy’s painting was a class project on monochromatic paintings where each student would take one color and using different shades of that color would create their painting. The student’s monochromatic paintings were gathered together to create a wall of color in a BCMS hallway.

Thank you to our student artists! You all did a great job!

Ms. Gensel then presented her Superintendent’s report on the district’s Mid-Year Update for 2018-2019.
