Board of Education Meeting on August 16th

At the August 16, 2018 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Rebecca Gensel once again recognized a few of our student artists whose artwork is displayed in the Board of Education Conference Room.

At last night’s Board of Education meeting our featured artists were:

  • Rebecca – 2nd Grade – Torn Landscape Collage
    Art Teacher – Mr. Boehm

  • Anna – 5th Grade – Oil Pastel – Birch Trees in the Snow - Art Teacher – Mrs. Barry

  • Sophia – 6th Grade – Chalk Pastel – Animal Drawing
    Art Teacher – Miss Russo

  • Sophia – 8th Grade – Pastel and Cut Out – The Birds
    Art Teacher – Mr. Kupcha

We were so pleased that Rebecca and her family attended the meeting! Rebecca spoke about what all the different colors of torn paper in her landscape represented. Great job Rebecca!

Each month we will be displaying new artwork and recognizing our student artists.

Ms. Gensel introduced Ms. Hauser Director of Curriculum who along with, Mrs. Emmons, BCMS  STEM Coach and Ms. Patente, K-2 STEM Coach gave a presentation on their experience at the Smithsonian International K-12 Science Education Institute for Leadership Development and Strategic Planning. Along with Ms. Muzychko, 3-5 STEM Coach and Ms. Bernet, 8th Grade Science Teacher, last nights presenters       spent 5 days at the institute which challenged participants to work together to construct a vision of inquiry based, hands-on STEM education that supports a scientifically literate, career-ready citizenry.

They had a challenging week and left with a plan to:

  • Create a network of possible contacts within the surrounding community as well as those from the Institute.
  • Hold department meetings with staff to gather ideas for additional cross curricular connections.
  • Meet with administration to share content at grade level bands and help them recognize where they are connected.

You can view their presentation here.
