Board of Education Meeting on June 14th

At the June 14th Board of Education meeting Board President Terri Joyce told the audience that for the Superintendent’s report we had student representatives from each of our schools there to present their Capstone Projects.

Whiton 3rd grade students led by Mr. Moor presented their slide show which focused on what would make the Whiton community a better place. After voting, the students top three choices were:

  • Recycling of school waste (including compost bins)

  • Adding more challenging books in the library

  • Beautifying the school

Their Capstone slide show can be viewed here.

Stony Brook’s 5th grade students led by their G.E.L. leaders, Mrs. Burke, Ms. Mastroserio and Mrs. Gallo decided to focus on learning more about the Branchburg Community. Their topics included:

  • An interview with the Branchburg Chief of Police

  • Little Red School House

  • A photo tour of Branchburg

Their Capstone slide show can be viewed here.

BCMS 8th grade students were accompanied by Mrs. Cardona, Mrs. Volpe and Ms. Pereira as they presented the 8th grade Capstone Project.

For the Social Change Project, students are tasked with researching an issue or topic that evokes passion and then they create awareness of the topic. They then have to decide what their group will do to help their cause and what others can do for the cause. Their research and projects all come together at the BCMS Social Change Rally where they present their displays to the BCMS community and their families.

Their Capstone slide show can be viewed here.

All of our students did a wonderful job on their projects and presentations to the Board and audience. The Board of Education praised them for their hard work.
