Welcome to Mrs. Barry's Art Room
My name is Mrs. Rokiah Barry. This year we are on a 6 day cycle. I will be teaching art to grades pre-K, and 1st, at Whiton Elementary School on Days 1, 2, and 3, in the afternoon. I will be teaching art to the 4th and 5th graders at Stony Brook School in the morning on days 1, 2, and 3. My full time days with the 4th and 5th grade Stony Brook students are on days 4, 5 and 6.
As an art educator my goal is to expose my students to a broad range of multi-sensory art experiences. My art lessons encompass the study of culture, art history, aesthetics and critiques, as well as the production, and creating of art. All of my art lessons are aligned with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards.
The message that I try to convey to my students is that the art room is a place for fun, a place to learn, a safe place. I encourage them to explore unfamiliar territory, and to take intellectual and emotional risks. In so doing, they are allowed to grow, use their senses, and make judgments. They are learning to observe, respect and enjoy the natural and man-made wonders of the world around them.
